Letter From The President

Fall is a great time of year, especially because of recruitment. The time where, as a chapter, we stay up late nights preparing and anticipating a group of new sisters that will join our growing sisterhood. It’s also a time that I really thinking about why I joined Tri Sigma, and to be completely honest I don’t know if I could ever write all of my reasons.

My very first reason would be how welcomed I felt. I entered the house nervous and anxious. All of those nerves went away as I met some of the most genuine and kind hearted people. We didn’t exactly talk about sorority life or even Greek life in general. We just talked about college, our likes, dislikes and hobbies. It was effortless and before I knew it time was up. I wanted to know more about Tri Sigma, I wanted to get to know the girls more.

After receiving my bid I had no idea what was in store, but getting to know each member, learning about our history and getting to know this new community was exciting. I love that even though this organization is 118 years old, the five core values are deeply rooted and present today.

At Sigma Sigma Sigma, Alpha Beta we are so proud of the accomplishments of our individual sisters as well as our chapter achievements. Always striving to empower each other in character and to be strong leaders. We are proud to be the top fundraising chapter of Tri Sigma for the past six years We work very hard on our annual event Tri Sigma Night Live that works to fund the initiative of ‘Sigma Serves Children’ as we donate to the March of Dimes and Therapeutic Play.

So, why Tri Sigma? Maybe because of our leadership programs, service and philanthropy. Maybe because the friendship and love received is priceless and irreplaceable. Maybe it’s the late nights, inside jokes or sisterhood, but as you go through recruitment I hope that you will find your own reasons for choosing your home away from home. And I hope your experience is exciting and positive.

I am deeply thankful to serve as President for Alpha Beta, and happy to be a part of this big Greek Community.  I am so grateful to have joined Greek Life because the friendships and memories I’ve made are invaluable. So for me, it’s not “Why Tri Sigma” anymore, it’s “Why not Tri Sigma”.

Sigma Love and Mine,

            Emma Hanby
